Did you know the HPV vaccine prevents cancer? The HPV vaccine protects against HPV types 16 and 18 — the two types that cause 80 percent of cervical cancer cases.
The HPV vaccine also protects against HPV types 6 and 11, which cause 90 percent of std cases.
On Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Patient/Community Education and Volunteer Services invites you to learn more about the HPV vaccine through a free film screening of “Someone You Love.”
This documentary follows the lives of five women affected by HPV (human papillomavirus), which can lead to six types of cancers later in life, including mouth, throat, anal cervical cancers. By sharing their intimate stories, these women shed light on the risks, myths, problems, politics, misconceptions and hard truths about the widespread epidemic and how the HPV vaccine saves lives.

The event begins at 11 a.m. in the Wertz Auditorium (2nd floor), 4100 John R, in Detroit on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020. CME/CE/CNE credits will be provided. Box lunch for those who register by Monday, Jan. 27, 2020.
