Karmanos Cancer Institute and FocuSStem NextGen are excited to offer the week-long FocuSStem NextGen Summer Intensive in July 2020 for high school students in Southeastern Michigan. The Summer Intensive is designed to optimize the virtual learning environment. Students will meet and discuss career pathways with the nation’s leading cancer physicians and researchers in oncology, pathology, epidemiology as well as expert clinical staff. Networking and mentorship opportunities will continue after the summer session.
Working together with their peers, participants will explore real-world health scenarios and enjoy learning practical leadership skills. Learners will combine their personal readings and reflection of important materials selected by the STEM-related faculty and staff to enhance their online group sessions.
The FocuSStem NextGen Summer Intensive is open to all Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb county high school students entering 10th to 12th grade in the Fall of 2020. Students of Color, LGBTQ learners, and women are especially encouraged to apply.
